The Patient Care Technician performs evidence-based nursing activities to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of patients under nursing supervision. Key duties include monitoring vital signs, assisting with basic needs, and performing clinical tasks like phlebotomy and ECGs.
Candidates should preferably have a high school diploma or GED and must be at least 18 years old. A BLS certification from the American Heart Association and previous healthcare experience are preferred.
SCHEDULE: Part time, benefit eligible 12 hrs/week NOC shift, 5:30pm-6:00am Every 3rd weekend rotation Holiday rotation KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Performs delegated patient care activities using evidence-based practice and specific competencies for the patient population served. Checks patients’ vital signs, height, and weight, as needed, based on patient type. Provides compassionate care and listens to patients’ concerns and guides them by answering any questions or concerns. Identifies and escalates changes in patient status or patient risks to prevent crisis. Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports to care team. Repositions, transfers, ambulates and transports patients. Assists patients with basic needs (such as hygiene, eating, using the restroom, and dressing). Obtains and reports patient intake and output. Performs electrocardiograms (ECGs) as directed. Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection. Provides care that is age appropriate, culturally specific, and developmentally appropriate in an environment that promotes patient safety. Demonstrates professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, families, team members, and providers.
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform patient care procedures
Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock Occasional high noise level in work environment Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
