The Resident provides primary behavioral health care, including diagnostic assessments and counseling services within a Family Medicine Residency Center. They support the implementation of integrated care services to promote the Patient Centered Medical Home model.
The Behavioral Health Resident functions as a team member at the Ball Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Center. The Resident provides primary behavioral health care including consultation, diagnostic assessment and counseling services. The Resident supports the Behavioral Science Program Director in implementation of integrated care services to promote the Patient Centered Medical Home model of the Residency Center.
Requires current enrollment in a doctoral level applied psychology program. This position is a 2000 hour training position and requires participation in the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Resident Internship Centers (APPIC) matching services.
Residents will be selected by a ranking system implemented by the supervising psychologists in accordance with APPIC protocol.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
Must have the ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills to function in a consultative/educational and research role.
Must have the ability to exhibit scholarly writing skill including the use of appropriate word usage and vocabulary, and proper grammar and spelling.
Must have the ability to operate a personal computer using various applications; spreadsheet and/or database software.
Must have the ability to learn departmental functions and specialized terminology applicable to the departments.
Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
Must have the ability to evaluate problem situations and come to appropriate conclusions.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/significant others, physicians, co-workers, supervisors, and other clinic personnel on a one-on-one basis using appropriate word usage and vocabulary, and proper grammar.
