Job Description
Operates Computed Tomography (CT) equipment, prepares patients for examination, and captures appropriate imaging and information for Physician review and diagnosis.
Job Responsibility
- 1.Prepares patient for examination.
- Explains procedure in layman terms to relieve any potential anxiety.
- Performs thorough screening of patients prior to procedure.
- Ensures required consent forms have been obtained.
- Positions patient on exam table within gantry.
- Utilizes special devices (i.e. bromide shield) to reduce exposure to ionizing radiation of radiosensitive areas (i.e. breast, thyroid, etc.).
- 2.Sets up equipment to administer proper procedure in a timely fashion.
- Calculates number of scans to be obtained, ensuring required images are obtained according to Radiologist order.
- Adjusts CT equipment to capture appropriate field of view.
- Ensures proper slice thickness and couch increment.
- In collaboration with Radiologist, extends parameters within established imaging protocols, if needed.
- 3.Administers intravenous (IV) and oral contrast agents according to Radiologist order.
- Explains the administration of IV contrast to patient.
- Confirms there are no contraindications to administration of IV contrast agent.
- Completes IV Contrast Information Sheet with information provided by patient, family member or health care proxy.
- Calculates contrast dose based on patient’s weight.
- Performs venipuncture of appropriate gauge necessary for examination.
- Utilizes appropriate flush technique for existing IV line, if needed, and utilizes power injector to administer IV contrast.
- Recognizes and assists in treatment of contrast agent reactions and IV extravasations.
- 4.Performs CT procedures (abdominal, thoracic, neurological exams, extremities, sub-periosteal implant planning, radiation therapy treatment planning, biopsies, etc.).
- 5.Transmits cases to Radiologist through teleradiology system.
- 6.Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification
- Vocational or Technical school Diploma, required.
- Current license to practice as a Radiology Technologist in New York State, required.
- Certification in IV Contrast Administration, required within six (6) months of entry date into position.
- Current ARRT Radiology registration, required.
- ARRT registration in Computed Tomography (CT), required within eighteen (18) months of entry date into position.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, required.
- 1-3 years of technical experience, required.
