  • Range: $28.00 - $34.00 HourlyThe Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) supports the dentist in delivering high-quality clinical care by performing advanced restorative procedures as permitted under Pennsylvania law. This role enhances patient care by increasing clinical efficiency, improving patient comfort, and ensuring excellent restoration outcomes. All EFDA duties must be performed under the direct supervision of a dentist as defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry. Service Delivering patient-centered care by supporting comfort, clarity, and compassion throughout every restorative procedure. Welcome and prepare patients for restorative appointments, ensuring they feel calm, informed, and supported. Provide clear explanations of procedures within scope to promote a positive clinical experience. Assist the dentist in maintaining patient comfort throughout operative appointments. Demonstrate compassion and professionalism while supporting patients with diverse needs. Collaborate with providers, hygienists, and assistants to deliver seamless patient-first care. Mastery Applying advanced clinical skills and technical precision to perform EFDA procedures safely and effectively. Place and remove rubber dams, wedges, and matrices. Apply cavity liners and bases. Place and finish composite resin restorations and sealants. Perform coronal polishing and fluoride treatments, including varnish. Take impressions for study models, diagnostic casts, or athletic appliances. Maintain restorative instruments, materials, and equipment with high accuracy. Ensure OSHA, CDC, and state regulatory compliance at all times. Impact Enhancing patient outcomes and supporting practice performance through accurate restorations and efficient workflows. Improve patient health by producing restorations that meet standards of form, function, and esthetics. Increase clinical efficiency by performing EFDA tasks that reduce chair time and support dentist productivity. Ensure timely operatory turnover and preparedness to maintain strong daily flow. Support patient satisfaction by promoting comfort and quality during restorative visits. Communicate workflow needs or delays proactively to the clinical team. Leadership Demonstrating integrity, accountability, and clinical leadership as an advanced member of the dental team. Serve as a role model for assistants by demonstrating mastery of restorative procedures. Uphold EFDA regulations, including supervision requirements and prohibited procedures. Support onboarding and mentorship for dental assistants in restorative workflows. Model professionalism, ethical judgment, and respect in all interactions. Participate actively in team communication, meetings, and case discussions. Elevate Strengthening the quality of care and team performance through continuous improvement and innovation. Seek opportunities to refine restoration techniques and workflow efficiency. Stay informed on advancements in restorative materials and technology. Offer suggestions to improve patient comfort and clinical outcomes. Engage in continuing education to expand technical and professional skills. Promote a positive, collaborative team culture focused on excellence. Qualifications Active Pennsylvania EFDA certification required. Completion of an accredited EFDA program. Current CPR certification. Strong technical competency in restorative procedures, dental materials, and coronal polishing. Strong communication and patient-care skills. Ability to follow direct supervision guidelines and regulatory requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, bend, and position for extended periods. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for restorative procedures. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds of instruments, materials, or equipment.

Requirements

Requires an active Pennsylvania EFDA certification and completion of an accredited EFDA program. Must hold a current CPR certification and possess strong technical competency in restorative dental procedures.
