What to expect as a Phlebotomist: Perform order entry, obtaining pertinent patient information and determine specimen collection requirements. Perform proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID, collect specimens in proper tubes utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques and accurately label specimens to ensure accurate patient results. Process and handle specimens appropriately to maintain sample integrity. Perform receptionist and clerical duties. Handle patients of all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics. Communicate well, have excellent customer service, and strong team-building skills.
High School graduate or equivalent. Experience in phlebotomy or completion of an Accredited Phlebotomy Program with successful completion of experience practicum is desirable. Minimum 2 years of experience required. Experience with venous and capillary collection for all age groups PBT (ASCP) or equivalent National phlebotomy certification, preferred.
