About the role

Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with all hospital departments

Position Overview

Provides direct and indirect patient care activities under direct supervision. Assists patients with activities of daily living, providing for personal care, comfort and assistance when necessary. Patient Age Groups Served: Neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Major Duties/Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings as required.

Ability to function independently or as a member of a team. Prioritizes assignments to complete tasks in a timely and professional manner

  • Performs basic nursing procedures, including collection of lab specimens, thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of simple dressing, and perineal care.
  • Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, pulse, intake and output.
  • 4a-May obtain blood glucose, if trained.
  • Assists in admission, transfer and dismissal procedures of the patient.
  • Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, bed pans, transportation, and skin care and positioning.
  • Keeps the patient's room straightened and clean.

Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy. Maintains patient documentation as outlined by hospital policy. Maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of medical treatment. Maintains confidentiality of all patient data.

Job Qualifications

Experience: Previous clinical experience preferred

Education: Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training

Required Certifications/Registrations

Current PCT Kansas Certification, if certified. CPR/BLS Certification

Physical Requirements

Daily lifts, positions, and transfers patients with assistance (weights up to and occasionally in excess of 200 lbs.).

Lifts supplies/equipment

Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching

Eye-hand coordination

Ability to carry out procedures as outlined

Normal eye sight, with or without corrective lenses

Normal hearing, with or without hearing aid
