The Vocational Specialist assists clients with mental, substance abuse, and developmental disorders in obtaining and maintaining paid employment. They serve as a job developer and coach, working directly in the community to assess and develop necessary work skills.
The Vocational Specialist works with clients that have mental, substance abuse, and developmental disorders and assists them to obtain and maintain paid employment. The team member is called upon to work in the community in the role of job developer and job coach and as a counselor to assess and develop necessary work skills in job seekers. General knowledge of IPS vocational services, and practices. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely. Understanding of treatment planning and a Team approach to treatment. Ability to be available for crisis situations and crisis phone rotation. Must complete required Vocational Training (IPS) within 90 days of employment. Knowledge of recovery principles and community resources concentrating on vocational opportunities. Ability to present members to employers and concentrate on strengths. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely. Possess knowledge of interventions needed for the members to find and maintain employment. Travel Requirements: Valid Driver’s License and insurance required. Travel will vary depending on the daily schedule for this position. All travel is in the community where the members live and work. A bachelor's degree in a behavioral health field and at least one year of experience working with adults with mental illness or substance abuse in a vocational capacity are preferred. Completion of Individual Placement and Support (IPS) training is required, along with a valid driver's license and insurance.
