About the role

The Ultrasonographer is responsible for preparing patients and equipment to safely and accurately perform ultrasound procedures. They must maintain a safe environment, manage images via PACS, and ensure high-quality patient care.

POSITION PURPOSE Under general supervision of the Imaging Manager, the Ultrasonographer prepares equipment and patients for Ultrasound procedures, safely and accurately performs Ultrasounds as ordered and directed according to established practices and procedures.

Maintains safe environment to deliver highest quality patient care and accurate imaging.

Safely performs all ultrasound procedures in accordance with established procedures.

Position and transfer patients appropriately.

Provide immobilization devices as required.

Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.

Select and operate all equipment as directed.

Move images to PACS.

Provide protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.

Assist physicians in administering accepted contrast media.

Practice sterile technique and prevent cross contamination.

Attends in-services and meetings as required.

Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.

Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.

Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately Perform all other related functions as directed.

LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members.

Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

Education

Completion of formal sonography technology training program required.

Experience

  • none required, one year of experience in ultrasound preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current State of Texas license preferred. Current registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or RDMS preferred. Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment, before patient care is administered independently. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Medium strength is required to position patients for examination or treatment.

Frequent

lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing & walking.

Occasional

  • reaching, bending, squatting, climbing kneeling, twisting. Visual and hearing acuity required; depth perception needed to examine exposed film for pertinent details. Work is mostly inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
  • Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens. Requirements

Completion of a formal sonography technology training program is required, with BLS certification mandatory within 30 days. ARRT or RDMS registry and a Texas state license are preferred.
