Summary

The Medication Technician (MedTech) provides personal care and support to residents while safely administering medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and regulatory requirements. This role assists with daily living activities, maintains accurate documentation, and promotes resident dignity, safety, and well-being within a supportive care environment.

Qualification Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Completed 24-hour Medication Aide training program approved by the NC Board of Nursing.

CNA Certified

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of relevant experience working in long-term care or assisted living, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic personal care practices, including hygiene, mobility, and activities of daily living.
  • Knowledge of safe medication administration practices, including documentation, storage, and reporting requirements.
  • Skill in measuring and recording vital signs, recognizing changes in resident condition, and reporting promptly.
  • Understanding of infection control, safety, and universal precaution practices.
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with residents, families, nursing staff, and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional ethics, resident rights, and professional boundaries.
  • Competence in safe body mechanics and use of assistive equipment for lifting and transfers.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and accuracy in completing documentation and assigned tasks.
  • Compassion, patience, and attentiveness in providing resident-centered care.

  • Essential Functions
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders, accurately documenting all care provided on medical administration records.
  • Provide or assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene.
  • Maintain security, safety, and cleanliness of medication carts and medication storage areas, reporting discrepancies promptly to the supervisor.
  • Take and record vital signs, observe residents’ conditions, and report changes in health or behavior to the Assisted Living Coordinator or nursing staff.
  • Assist with resident meals, ensuring proper feeding support and safe dining experiences.
  • Support resident participation in recreational, social, and therapeutic activities.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and universal precaution protocols to ensure resident and staff safety.
  • Uphold resident rights, confidentiality, and professional standards of care.
  • Use safe body mechanics and proper equipment when lifting, transferring, or assisting residents.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in resident records and daily logs.
  • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Participate in care planning, staff meetings, and required training sessions.
  • Assist with light housekeeping, laundry, and equipment cleaning as needed to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.

Requirements

Requires a High School Diploma, completion of a CNA program, and at least one year of experience in healthcare or home care. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
