About the role

Deliver comprehensive patient care through the nursing process across preoperative, interoperative, and postoperative phases. Manage patient assessments, implement care plans, and coordinate with the surgical team in a fast-paced environment.

Essential functions

The delivery of patient care through the framework of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis and patient outcome) in the preoperative, interoperative and postoperative phase of the surgical patient.

Supervision received: Supervisor of Clinical Services

Qualifications

  • Degree from accredited nursing program.
  • Current Texas RN License.
  • BLS certification.
  • ACLS and PALS or successful completion within 3 months of hire date.
  • 2 year OR experience
  • Must possess organizational skills to function in a fast paced OR environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNOR
  • 2 year OR experience including general, neuro-spine, spine and orthopedic joint. (Preferred sports medicine, arthroscopy, podiatry, pain and oral surgery).
  • Scrub experience or willingness to learn.

Occupational exposure

Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and radiation hazards.

Responsibilities

  • 1.
  • Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological and cognitive status.
  • 2.
  • Formulates a goal directed plan of acre, which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes.
  • 3.
  • Implements care in a knowledgeable, skilled consistent manner in reaching the desired patient outcomes through nursing processes.
  • 4.
  • Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available center resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
  • 5.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • 6.
  • Demonstrates applied knowledge base in areas of medical/surgical patient care, pain assessment and actions of pharmaceuticals and anesthetic agents, laboratory values, safety and legal issues and all emergency equipment.
  • 7.
  • Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making.
  • 8.
  • Performs documentation duties on the floor and in the patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise.
  • 9.
  • Works as part of a team in delivering patient care.
  • 10.
  • Maintains BLS and ACLS certification as required.
  • 11.
  • Attends all mandatory in services and participates in staff meetings.
  • 12.
  • Remains flexible, adaptive and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches.
  • 13.
  • Treats all patients equally adopting the hospital’s Patient Rights policy.
  • 14.
  • Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner.
  • 15.
  • Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.

Requirements

Requires a degree from an accredited nursing program, a current Texas RN license, and BLS certification. Candidates must have at least 2 years of OR experience and obtain ACLS and PALS certifications within three months of hire.
