Summary Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of surgical patients.
Job Duties
Assesses the physical, psycho/social health, and spiritual needs of the patient scheduled for surgery.
Documents the patient response to nursing/medical interventions.
Documents the initial and ongoing education needs of the patient/family as appropriate.
Provides and ensures age-appropriate, direct patient care utilizing skills, knowledge, and established standards of care.
Compiles data, tracks outcomes, and makes recommendations for process improvement.
Performs therapeutic nursing interventions.
Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
Administers medications to patients and monitors patients for reactions or side effects.
Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and quickly reacts.
Identifies and documents educational needs of patients and family; reinforces pre and post procedural teaching.
Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
