  • Shift: Day The Union Health Center (UHC) is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant to join our Team UHC’s Background The Union Health Center (UHC) is an innovative primary and multi-specialty center focused on providing well-coordinated and accessible healthcare. UHC has been providing care to New Yorkers for over one hundred years, founded by the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA). UHC was established to provide affordable and comprehensive healthcare to union members and their families and has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient Centered Medical Home since 2009. The center was built around a team-based model that integrates health coaches and serves a patient population that experiences a heavy burden of chronic disease and varying levels of health literacy. UHC maintains Primary Care PCMH recognition and is certified as an Article 28 facility. Our Common Purpose We welcome and care for our patients and each other, by providing the finest medical home for union workers and their families.
  • SUMMARY: Provides direct patient care by performing the following duties.

  • Status: Non-Exempt ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned Attends daily team huddles, reviews Quality Measures prior to scheduled appointments for completion of health maintenance recommendations, previous Pap smear, mammography, other radiographic studies and lab work. Updates flow sheet as per UHC P&P. Measures and/or records vital signs, allergies, weight, height and smoking status into the electronic medical record (EMR). Performs urine pregnancy test, peak flows, finger stick for glucose, monofilament foot exams, vision/ hearing screenings, urine dipstick and phlebotomy, if needed. Codes patient procedures into the EMR. Updates the EMR as directed by the provider. Performs medication review with each patient. Notifies provider of discrepancies and with refilling of medication prescriptions. Documents PHQ2, PHQ9, GAD, DAST, AUDIT and SODH annually or as needed. Documents HPI for all patients, prior to PCP visit. Notifies provider and prepares materials for in-patient procedures as per Union Health Center (UHC) policies and procedures (P&P). Sets up exam rooms for the provider. Checks equipment to be in working order and stocks rooms with supplies daily and as needed. Escorts patient to the exam room. Performs 2- patient identification before assessing and preparing the patient for the provider. Reviews, confirms and updates the patient’s demographic data and consents in the EMR registration document. Reviews and confirms insurance and pharmacy information is accurate in the EMR registration document. Makes changes as needed Scans all updated documents including insurance, pharmacy benefit and picture ID cards, forms and urgent documents into the EMR following indexing client guidelines. Communicates with the provider and team. Checks email and Teams messages throughout the day. Schedules future appointments in the EMR and provides information to the patient regarding follow-up care. Prints out Clinical Visit Summary (CVS) Sheet for patients. Reviews and answers any questions that patients have about CVS highlighting any changes to medication ordered, follow- up lab requests, referrals, etc. Assists provider with visit confirmation/follow-up calls, preparing letters to patients or rescheduling appointments per UHC P&P. Generates correspondence per UHC P&P. Cleans and sterilizes instruments as needed. Answers telephones and documents phone notes in the EMR per UHC P&P. Completes and sign notes in a timely manner. Processes electronic patient referrals, Prior authorizations and consultations ordered by physician. Collects information about walk-in patient’s clinical complaints and directs patient to the RN or Team Supervisor for triage, if necessary. Follows safety procedures and blood borne pathogen precautions as per UHC policies and procedures.
  • Supports and reinforces policies re: patient care, infection control and safety. Maintains quality assurance logs. Attends organization’s meetings, trainings and completes Med Trainer courses as assigned. Knowledge of and use of clinical registries as directed by providers or care teams. Supports the stated goals and objectives of the Patient Centered Medical Home by working cooperatively with all clinical and non-clinical staff to develop procedures that enhance the Health Center’s team-based approach to patient care. Complies with the Union Health Center’s policies & procedures related to privacy and security of identifiable patient information (PHI), as explained in the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) training. Maintains stock and ordering of medical and non-medical supplies. Provides front desk covering to as needed including but not limited to scheduling appointment, registering the new and established patients, troubleshooting problems and evaluate patient needs at registration desk. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None The salary range for this position is $18.50 - $25.95, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

High school or Equivalency /GED Diploma and current Medical Assistant Certification from a certified institution, skilled in phlebotomy, phlebotomy certification is a plus. Computer Literate Language proficiency required in one of the target languages of the organization. Ability to communicate and work well with people at all levels; excellent team and “people” skills. Assist and maintain a strong working relationship with providers and professional members of the team. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Initiates good judgment and ability to contribute in making decisions in a timely fashion. Actively seek out and support collaborative thinking and problem solving with others in the organization. Possess a professional appearance and presentation. Requirements
