Summary
Provides comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients before and after their Cardiac Cath, electrophysiology, vascular, interventional radiology, neuro IR and structural heart procedures.
This includes patients having an Acute MI, device implant, EP ablations, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Triclip and Watchman.
Cares for both inpatients and outpatients before procedures and during Phase 1 and 2 of recovery from General Anesthesia, MAC sedation and IV moderate sedation. Coordinates and participates with all members of the health care team including technical staff, physician staff, and nursing from other areas.
Responsibilities
- (30%) Regularly assesses patients/clients needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care, and accepted standards of nursing practice.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and physicians to ensure that appropriate care is provided. (30%) Provides direct patient care, including medication administration, treatments, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, etc. Provides sedation monitoring in accordance with hospital policy and documents appropriately. (20%) Possesses a thorough knowledge of pre, intra and post procedure routine. Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care. (10%) Processes physician/provider orders and performs physician ordered care accurately, completely and in a timely manner. (10%) Follows up regarding medication changes and order clarifications. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates the ability to interpret information and reports pertinent data to the physician, including pertinent clinical information. Assess learning needs considering readiness, ability, preferences, and cultural /spiritual variables Provide education to meet the individual needs and ability to learn. Participates in care conferences as assigned. Develops and maintains good working rapport with interdisciplinary personnel to meet the needs of each patient and family. Coordinates care provided by certified nurses aide. Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize the needs of groups of patients or an individual patient. Demonstrates a general ability to manage assignments and perform routine duties on the unit. Instructs other team members when appropriate, explaining goals and rationale for individualized care. Implements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures. Demonstrates understanding of clinical pathways and utilizes appropriately. Remains calm and efficient when working in stressful situations. Documents in an accurate, clear, and concise way and include pertinent clinical data. Shares information and reports significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team members. Participates in regulatory surveys. Participated in performance improvement activities. Participates in performance improvement activities. Assists with orientation and ongoing competencies. Provides a safe and secure environment for patient care. Attends and participates in professional association activities and programs to ensure they are current regulations, guidelines, and professional standards. Demonstrates understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedures. Assesses both the physical and psychological needs of patients through completion of the nursing history and admission process. Initiates physician orders, completes appropriate consent forms and coordinates pre-procedural care with other hospital departments. Documents in accordance with hospital policy. Possesses a thorough knowledge of pre, intra and post procedure routine. Initiates a teaching plan appropriate to the procedure and the patients level of understanding. Possesses a thorough knowledge of physician preference and routine. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and physicians to assure that appropriate care is provided. Transfers patients, stocks supplies, and performs basic office functions. Demonstrates an understanding of all medications administered for care of the patient. Provides sedation monitoring in accordance with hospital policy and documents appropriately. Evaluates patient progress toward discharge and, if necessary, initiates additional interventions. Provides written discharge instructions with a complete knowledge of physician preference and discharge routine. Maintains a therapeutic relationship with the patient, family and other health care providers to ensure that patient care goals have been accomplished. Completes appropriate documentation. Required Education
Associates Degree Equivalent Experience
Knowledge of the nursing techniques normally acquired through the completion of an Associates Degree in Nursing culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan. BSN is preferred.

Interpersonal skills are needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Provides for the age specific needs of the population served in accordance with unit standards, policies and procedures as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback for the following age groups. Medical/surgical nursing experience and a basic knowledge of procedural nursing. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
