About the role

Perform basic and translational research focusing on fibrinolysis products and bone-marrow resident monocytes to treat traumatic brain injury. Responsibilities include conducting laboratory experiments, maintaining accurate documentation, and managing laboratory supplies.

Pediatric Surgery lab, Regenerative Medicine, located at 1881 East Road, Houston, Texas 77054, Summary As a member of the Dept of Pediatric Surgery’s Children’s Program in Regenerative Medicine and a collaborator with the Center for Translational Injury Research (CeTIR), the applicant will perform basic/ translational research to support several projects. These projects include a study of the effects of fibrinolysis products on the blood-brain barrier following hemorrhage and trauma and the role of bone-marrow resident monocytes in the efficacy of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells to treat traumatic brain injury. These projects may include animal work and other research activities. Research activities may include some or all of the following: handle biological samples, perform laboratory experiments and activities, and data collection. A successful candidate is expected to be well versed in common biological research techniques (western blot, immunohistochemistry, aseptic cell culture, ELISA) and work well in teams. Candidate will be expected to manage their own progress across several activities and be able to perform and report analyzed data. Essential Functions

Under general direction, performs laboratory experiments and activities to support research objectives.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation including notebooks, records, databases, etc. as needed by the research project. May prepare graphic representations of data results.

Maintains clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

Under general direction, monitors laboratory and/or other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects in a timely manner.

Stays abreast of new and updated procedures and protocols for research laboratory. Must maintain compliance with required training. May participates in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops.

As needed, coordinates the work of laboratory technicians, support staff and other assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results. Answers questions or resolves problems regarding routine or more complex duties.

Position Summary

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least one year of related experience in a research or clinical laboratory environment. Candidates must be proficient in common biological research techniques and capable of working effectively in a team.
