About the role

The candidate will conduct research on the neurobiology of Parkinson's disease using various microscopy and biochemistry techniques. Additionally, they will lead a research project and provide general laboratory maintenance and administrative support.

Position Summary

The Morgan lab seeks a highly motivated individual to join The Eugene Bell Center for Regenerative Biology and Tissue Engineering as a full-time Research Assistant I. The successful candidate will work on the neurobiology of Parkinson’s disease and also provide general lab support.

Major responsibilities include

confocal and other light microscopy techniques; basic biochemistry; electron microscopy; some electrophysiology. The candidate will lead a research project and assist the PI and other lab personnel with experiments. Other tasks include performing data analysis, lab maintenance, and minor administrative tasks. Position will be for 1 year, but may be extended beyond this period contingent on funding.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree (B.S. or B.A.), as well as significant background and coursework in Neuroscience, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, or other related topics. Must have strong analytical and computer skills. Must know standard laboratory practices and be familiar with general laboratory equipment. Must be able to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience with the lamprey model, microdissections, confocal imaging, statistics, image analysis software, coding, or some combination. Prior experience working with fish or other aquatic species is also desirable.

Physical Requirements

Minimal exposure to biohazardous chemicals. Occasional lifting of heavy objects (<30 pounds).
