About the role

The Unit Coordinator serves as the organizational hub of the Emergency Department, coordinating communication and transcribing provider orders. They facilitate collaboration among care teams and manage patient records and interfacility transports to ensure efficient patient flow.

  • SUMMARY: Provides indirect care in the department setting under the direction of the Charge Nurse. Transcribes orders from records, coordinates team care, liaisons with care teams, and arranges interfacility transport. Performs detailed and accurate assignments and compiles information to ensure accurate records.

Knowledge/Experience

2 years hospital experience preferred. Medical terminology is strongly recommended. Previous experience in clerical or receptionist position required.

Education

High School graduate or GED required. Completes all mandatory review/education as required and assigned.

License/Certification/Registry

None.

Ability to achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Possesses interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with previous experience in a clerical or receptionist role. Two years of hospital experience and knowledge of medical terminology are strongly preferred.
