The technician is responsible for performing pulmonary function tests, conducting ABG draws, and ensuring quality control and equipment maintenance. They also oversee staff training, manage laboratory supplies, and assist the pulmonary medicine department with emergency kit audits.

Summary

The Pulmonary Function Technician is responsible for all tests performed, QA, CQI, training, equipment maintenance, proficiency testing, policies and procedures development. Assists pulmonary medicine department with emergency equipment inventory, ordering, cleaning and restocking supplies and performing ABG draws.

Responsibilities

  • Responds as soon as possible to stats.
  • Produces accurate well presented reports.
  • Expedites interpretation and communicates results.
  • Provides technical support in other sections of medicine as needed such as Cardiology and GI.
  • 2.
  • Follows up on assignments to ensure that work is appropriately performed.
  • Reports unusual occurrences.
  • Provides adequate coverage.
  • Communicates with management in a pro-active manner 3.
  • Maintains equipment in good working order.
  • Maintains clean, safe environment Equipment supplies and facility management.
  • Maintain adequate supplies with fiscal accountability 4.
  • Ensures that staff working in the lab or performing test are properly trained.
  • Documents competency of staff.
  • Teaches students the basic of PFT testing 5.
  • Provides back up for Point of Care testing Coordinator for arterial blood gas, lactate and co-oximetry testing.
  • Reviewing lab procedures and results and ensuring quality testing is performed Provides back up for Point of Care testing Coordinator for arterial blood gas, lactate and co-oximetry testing.
  • Maintaining proficiency testing for JCAHO and CAP and STATE 6.
  • New procedures and equipment evaluation.

Requirements

Candidates must be a Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) and a licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Connecticut. Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required, while RPFT credentialing is desired.
