About the role

The Radiation Therapist provides direct clinical and technical application of radiation treatments to patients based on the Radiation Oncologist's prescriptions. They are responsible for monitoring patient conditions and operating specialized equipment safely.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of the Manager of Radiation Oncology, the Radiation Therapist provides direct application of clinical and technical expertise to patients in accordance with the prescription and instruction of the Radiation Oncologist and with appropriate consideration of patient age.

  • The compensation range for the role is $68.99- $76.53 hourly.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Satisfactory completion of a 24 month certificate program in Radiation Oncology, or equivalent.
  • Minimum
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Required
  • Certification/Registration: Must have satisfactorily completed a 24 month course in Radiation Technology registered by AART, and/or currently holds a NYS license in Radiation Therapy. Ongoing and continuing BLS certification.
  • Physical
  • Requirements: Stands, walks and sits intermittently. Considerable mental strength required to work daily with cancer patients. Must be alert, in control of equipment, and observant of patient’s condition. Ability to lift and transfer patients using proper and safe techniques.

  • Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.

Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.

  • Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
