Performs clerical duties including the recording of vital records and birth certificates for county and state agencies. Provides technical surgical support to RNs and physicians during obstetric and gynecological procedures in the operating room.
EA Rate of Pay: $41.21/hour + DOE Summary Responsible for clerical duties including the recording of vital records for the county and state. Assists the RN and surgeons/physicians in the care and treatment of obstetric surgical patients by performing specialized technical skills in the Women & Family Department/Operating Room. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitates communication between nursing staff, respiratory, physicians and all hospital departments using a variety of hospital communication systems, including computer, telephone, and paging systems.
Inputs patient charges into EPIC system, as directed by the W&F Manager.
Completes Birth Certificates, corrects and files with the state and county.
Maintains data for the Paternity Outreach Program (POP), Sierra Nevada regional Dept. of Child Services, invoices the program, and files paternity papers with the State of California.
Maintains the integrity of the sterile field and sterile instruments and supplies used at the surgical site.
Maintains Infant Security and visitor access to secure department
Completes monthly outdates in OB Dept.
Maintains stored tissue (placenta) in dirty utility room.
Assists with patient Admission, Discharge, Transfer in EMR system.
Maintains and orders supplies while ensuring cost effective use of supplies.
Relays messages, requests and instructions in a timely and professional manner.
Answers nurse call system when nursing personnel are unavailable.
Schedules patients for special exams, procedures and transportation.
Performs surgical hand antisepsis.
Responsible for preparing surgical unit for operative procedures by assembling sterile and nonsterile supplies and equipment; responsible for proper care of the instrumentation and equipment in surgery.
Checks and opens sterile supplies and maintains the sterile field per aseptic technique
Assist team members to position the patient on the operating table, surgical preps, and preoperative shaves.
Drapes or assists with draping for surgical procedure as indicated.
Watches and anticipates surgeon needs, prepares and passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon efficiently and effectively; holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other tasks as directed by the surgeon during surgery.
Understands and implements event related sterility.
Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
Attends and participates in meetings and in-services.
Complies with System policies and procedures.

Requires a certificate from a college or vocational school as a Surgical Scrub Technician or 2-3 years of relevant experience. Must hold a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and possess strong knowledge of OB/GYN surgical procedures.
