Our Mohs Lab Technicians at Vanguard have a high degree of responsibility. Our team cares for patients and prepares Mohs slides with excellence and efficiency. Our team works together with physicians and medical assistants to ensure a smooth surgical experience for our patients start to finish.
Prepare slides as directed by our Mohs surgeons, including inking specimens, mounting prepared tissue in preparation of sectioning, and sectioning and placing samples on slides. Processes 10+ cases per day with excellent quality and efficiency Adheres to all CLIA standards and documents laboratory conditions daily Monitors supply levels and orders consumable supplies for the lab, tracking inventory, expirations, and proper storage Coordinates scheduling routine maintenance for all laboratory equipment and performs routine filter changes and on-site maintenance as outlined Processes sterile instruments for Mohs surgical procedures and lab operations daily Mohs lab technicians support the Mohs clinical team (medical assistants and Mohs surgeons) in all aspects of the patient experience, including cross-training in core medical assistant responsibilities: Escorts patient to room and confirms reason for visit. Takes vitals as needed. Documents appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Communicates patient reason for visit and medical summary to medical providers accurately and efficiently in preparation for exam. Acts as chaperone for the provider examination. Scribes during the visit, accurately documenting areas examined, notable findings, treatment plan, recommended medications, and recommended procedures. Assists providers in dermatology/plastic surgery specific procedures including administering local anesthesia, blotting during surgeries/biopsies, cutting suture, and bandaging post-procedure. Reiterates provider instructions for patient regarding treatment plan and post-operative instructions. Sends orders as directed. Speaks with patients over the phone as directed regarding biopsy results, medication prior authorization status, and other patient questions and concerns. Documents calls and prior authorizations in the EMR. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree completed at accredited 4-year university or certified/registered medical assistant and/or medical lab sciences certification or equivalent experience Proven track record of working well on teams and delivering excellence. Excellent verbal and written skills required. Customer service experience a plus. Alignment with the values and mission of Vanguard Skin Specialists.
