Provide comprehensive medical support for shelter animals, including assisting in surgeries, administering anesthesia, and performing diagnostic tests. Maintain detailed health records and ensure the daily welfare and hygiene of animals within the clinic.

We have digital X-rays, a dental suite with digital dental X-rays, ultrasound, therapy laser, multiple anesthesia monitors, IV pumps, incubators, etc.

Many job duties include, but are not limited to: Assist the veterinarian with the assessment and processing of shelter animals, including vaccination boosters, medication administration, testing and care of special needs patients.

Assists veterinarian with all surgeries.

Including anesthesia administration, recording controlled substances, intubation of animals, surgical site preparation, observation under anesthesia and recovery.

Handles & restrains animals for medical care and surgery.

Implement routine treatment protocols based on standard operating procedures Perform diagnostic tests such as fecal flotations, urinalysis, ear cytology, etc.

Communicates with kennel and adoption staff, volunteers, and adopters with questions regarding veterinary care.

Prepares and administers daily medication to shelter animals.

Prepares diets for and cleans animal areas in the clinic.

Responsible for the daily observation of animal health and welfare of animals in the clinic and throughout the shelter.

Reports injuries and/or irregular behavior of animals to Veterinarian.

Maintains animal health records, treatment records, medication records with all medications filled, surgeries performed, vaccines administered, and treatments given.

Coordinates and inputs all info with animal database.

Assists with medical procedures and proper restraint of pet as needed.

Participates in hand rearing of animals if necessary.

Clean all surgical instruments daily, wrap packs, and run autoclave as needed.

Cleans surgery and restock medical supplies as needed.

Administers vaccines and boosters.

Perform nail trims, grooming and bathing and other animal care procedures.

Answers customer’s questions about the Shelter and the animals accurately.

Carries out duties and job assignments as delegated by the appropriate supervisor, manager or director.

Any other duties as assigned Physical Effort: Heavy lifting and squatting – Routinely lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Sufficient mobility, vision and hearing are needed to ensure a safe work environment.

Must be able to be on feet for 4-8 hours in a noisy work environment.

The person in this position needs to frequently move about the facility the duration of the day.

Requirements

Must be a Registered Veterinary Technician capable of heavy lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods. Requires the ability to perform clinical procedures and communicate effectively with staff and adopters.
