Your Role on the Team

Position Summary

The Nurse Navigator will collaborate with the team to grow, develop and support Neurology sub-divisions: Headache/Craniofacial, Movement Disorders, and Neuroimmunology (MS). Duties will include triaging and facilitating care to neurology patients, and also provide staff education, data collection, protocol development, ensuring compliance with guidelines and current measures. The nurse navigator must be able to work in a self-directed environment, with the willingness and ability to collaborate with other members of the team. The incumbent functions independently providing direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the patients in the Neurology Clinic. Incumbent is accountable for the quality of nursing practice and functions as the primary contact for neurology patients. Provides education as needed to the patients/family related to neurology care, diagnostic procedures, medication and other complex aspects of the plan of care. The nurse incorporates the psycho-motor and cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Provides nursing services as needed and assists with other activities as assigned to help grow the practice and the referrals to the Neuroscience Clinic.

Required Qualifications

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Minimum 2 years of clinical experience Minimum 6 months experience working as an RN in a neurology setting Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Current CA RN license and BLS certification All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of neurosurgical spine surgeries and care of the post-spine surgery patient Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families

Requirements

Candidates must be a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a current CA RN license. A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience is required, including at least one year of experience providing care to neurosurgical patients.
