About the role

Provides personal care to patients in the Emergency Department under the supervision of nursing staff. Performs clinical tasks including EKGs, phlebotomy, and wound care while maintaining a safe patient environment.

Hiring Range

$16.80 - $21.83/Hourly Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

  • Overview Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. Emergency Department personnel will provide education and validate team member has met required competency to perform skills specific to job description. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

What you will do

Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.

Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, specimen collection, etc.

Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.

Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes. Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.

Demonstrates the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualifications

One of the following is REQUIRED

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), VA Department of Health Professions
  • EMT-B (Basic) License in VA
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program (would need educational proof)
  • Currently enrolled in an LPN/RN nursing program with 80 clinical hours completed
  • Experience
  • 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting (Preferred)
  • Licensure / Certifications
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) - REQUIRED
