Clinical Responsibilities The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health and adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance standards, and all applicable policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory or accreditation requirements.

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence‑based nursing care across the care continuum, including:
  • Assessment

The Clinical Nurse participates in clinical decision‑making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve desired outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency. Practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

Patient Populations Include

  • STEMI
  • TAVR
  • Pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs)
  • Watchman procedures
  • Coronary Heart Disease
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Cardiogenic Shock
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease
  • Call Requirements
  • 30‑minute response time
  • Rotating call coverage including nights, weekends, and holidays

Procedural and Clinical Skills

  • Management of IV medications
  • Hemodynamic monitoring and response
  • Pulmonary adjunct management
  • Cath/EP lab‑specific technology
  • Maintenance of sterile and aseptic environment

Professional Nursing Skills

  • Interdisciplinary communication

Qualifications

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Indiana or active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two (2) years of acute care experience; such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
  • Additional advanced life support certifications may be required based on unit or department specialty
