This position performs General diagnostic ultrasound testing such as Abdominal, OB/GYN, and small parts examinations.
An Ultrasound Technologist General is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing, academic, and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures.
The scope of practice of the Ultrasound Technologist includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS specialty certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating findings of diagnostic examinations using sonography as appropriate.
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the ultrasound lab, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).
The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to pursue lifelong learning to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
Certifications and Licensures
ARDMS AB - Abdominal Ultrasound Tech Required Equivalent Experience - Ultrasound technologists performing general ultrasound imaging, including abdomen, small parts, and obstetrics/gynecology, must obtain and maintain active certifications by the ARDMS in Abdomen and OB/GYN specialties within one year of the date of hire. Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate and ARDMS or CCI re-credentialing yearly requirements to maintain active registrant status ARDMS OBGY - OB/GYN Ultrasound Tech Required Equivalent Experience - Ultrasound technologists performing general ultrasound imaging, including abdomen, small parts, and obstetrics/gynecology, must obtain and maintain active certifications by the ARDMS in Abdomen and OB/GYN specialties within one year of the date of hire BLS - Basic Life Support Required Equivalent Experience - Within 30 days of hire or transfer ULTRA C I - ARDMS-RVT OR CCI-RVS Preferred Equivalent Experience - Registered or registry eligible in Vascular Ultrasound RVT. Must obtain certification within 18 months of hire or transfer
Education: Associates Degree
Associate of Science or health care related field is preferred. One year work experience in a hospital setting is preferred. One year full time work experience preferred.
Equivalent Experience and Other Comments (Education)
Requires ARDMS certifications in Abdomen and OB/GYN, along with BLS certification. An Associate degree in a health-related field is preferred, and registry-eligible new graduates may apply.
