About the role

Perform competent and efficient blood draws for medical and surgical patients while ensuring minimal discomfort. Manage specimen collection, labeling, and data entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).

Optim Medical Center - Screven is seeking a PRN Phlebotomist for our Sylvania, GA location.

Job Requirements

Primary Duties

  • Provide care to Medical and Surgical patients who have recently undergone surgery to repair muscles, bones, and connective tissue.
  • Consistently draw blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
  • Perform Bleeding Times and patient results Enter Patient Orders in LIS including Collect and Receiving specimens Identify the patient - comparing patient information in LIS to the patient’s identification band before venipuncture is performed.
  • Displays courteous, professional manner toward patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Label and record all test tubes, logs procedures, files paperwork.
  • Is knowledgeable about which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed - knows test requirements.
  • Follow Standard Precautions at all times.
  • Dispose all sharps in a red sharps container.
  • Clean and supply venipuncture trays.
  • Maintains work areas.
  • Orders supplies when needed.
  • Require minimal supervision in performance of job duties.
  • Complete duties in a time efficient manner, knows how to prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders and outpatients.
  • Seek guidance and direction as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the value of team concept on a consistent basis.
  • Assist laboratory technician, does clerical work when needed.
  • Follow policies and procedures for the Clinical Laboratory and the hospital.
  • Professional Requirements: Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wear identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Complete in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attend annual review and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Read and return all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement.
  • Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
