About the role

Support child welfare programs by supervising parent/child visits and conducting in-home family visits. Assist with DCFS policy implementation, service planning, and facilitating Child and Family Team Meetings.

We are seeking a motivated intern to support our program!

Child Welfare MSW /BSW placement requirements: Fall/ Spring placement 15-20 hours a week.

Must be able to start in the summer for training.

One day in June, July, and August.

Must be available for group supervision, bi-weekly team meetings, and agency trainings.

Must be able to work one evening per week.

Agency cars are available, but use of personal car may be necessary.

Must provide proof of current car insurance.

Must feel comfortable, after a training period, to supervise parent/child visits and intervene in the visit when necessary.

Must feel comfortable with in home family visits.

Pass criminal and CANTS (DCFS) background check.

What you will learn: DCFS policy and procedure.

Trauma and loss work with children.

Juvenile court, DCFS ACR and legal screening process, Facilitating a Child and Family Team Meeting.

How to document contact.

Developing a service plan and visitation plan.

Interview skills.

Mandated reporter training.

Trauma / loss training.

Foster parent recruitment.

Return home, adoption or guardianship process.

Interns who are hired at LSSI within a year of successful completion of an internship receive additional salary compensation.

Requirements

Must be a BSW or MSW student available for 15-20 hours per week, including one evening. Requires a valid car insurance proof and the ability to pass criminal and CANTS background checks.
