About the role

The Surgical Support Tech assists in the preparation, delivery, and clean-up of patient care during the intra-operative phase. They are responsible for organizing sterile supplies, cleaning equipment, and ensuring anesthesia machines are properly tested and functional.

About the unit Level 3 trauma center with 15 operating rooms in the Magnet Designated Corewell Health System.

We are a center of excellence for bariatrics and total joints.

Approximately 40% of our cases are comprised of total joints and elective spine cases.

The remaining 60% of cases are comprised of General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic and ENT surgeries.

Blodgett Surgery is a high-tech environment with 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, Mazor and Stealth technology.

The OR is a team environment, as Nurses, Surgical Technologists and Surgery Support Staff work together to care for patients and support surgeons and anesthesia providers throughout the surgical procedure.

The Blodgett OR team also serves as the patient advocate while the patient is under anesthesia.

OR staff must use precise, critical thinking, often within a short time frame, while keeping cost effective quality care and patient safety at the forefront.

We provide patient-focused inpatient care in 248 private patient rooms and outpatient services for medical, surgical and specialty care, achieving high rates of patient satisfaction.

Scope of work Assists in the preparation, delivery and clean-up of patient care during the intra-operative phase.

Contributes to the smooth operation of the unit.

Obtains and organizes necessary equipment, sterile supplies and instruments for each surgical case.

Assembles surgical supplies for rooms and case tables.

Opens sterile supplies for surgical procedures.

Cleans equipment (including decontamination and sterilization of instruments), work areas and reusable supplies and returns unneeded equipment to appropriate department.

Also follows-up on equipment needing repairs.

Sets up anesthesia machines and runs tests to ensure the air is flowing correctly.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent Required Associate's Degree in related field Preferred 2 years of relevant experience Patient Care Preferred and 1 year of relevant experience in Operating Room Preferred AHA or ARC American Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 Days of hire required Anesthesia Technician Certification (Cer. A.T.) preferred

Requirements

Candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, with an Associate's Degree preferred. Applicants should possess relevant patient care or operating room experience and obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire.
