About the role

The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning and executing direct nursing care for surgical patients across pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases. This includes collaborating with surgeons and anesthesia providers to maintain a safe environment and provide patient education.

Most patients at St.

James receive monitored anesthesia care for cataract and glaucoma procedures.

You will be cared for by a dedicated team led by your surgeon, certified registered nurse anesthetists, nurses, and other support staff.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is primarily responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care given to the surgical patient.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivery of patient care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative areas.
  • Anticipates the needs of the patient and surgical team, providing services according to the standards of professional nursing practices while maintaining a safe environment for the patient.
  • Participates in patient teaching and provides leadership by working with ancillary personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing.
  • Works closely with other members of the operating room team, including anesthesia providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists etc.
  • You may be requested to go to another location occasionally

Education

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • Current State Licensure
  • BLS required, ACLS preferred
  • Operating room experience or PACU/Critical Care experience preferred

Typical physical demands

  • Sitting, Standing, Bending, Reaching, Stooping, Walking and Lifting
  • Ability to see, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks
  • Driving independently to other facilities

Requirements

Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school with current state licensure and BLS certification. Experience in the operating room, PACU, or critical care is preferred.
