The Surgical Technologist 1 is a trained individual with advanced technical knowledge and skills in asepsis and the intraoperative phase of surgical patient care management, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Based upon such expertise, the Surgical Technologist 1 is responsible for providing all the necessary instrumentation, supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technologist 1, as a member of the surgical team provides direct patient care under the direction and supervision of the circulating nurse (RN).
Is responsible for meeting established OR standards for supplies and other equipment on the unit; is responsible for developing collaborative and collegial relationships with physicians and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the care of the surgical patient.

As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in supporting safe and efficient surgical procedures by:
✅ Reviewing procedure cards and surgeon preference cards to prepare for each surgical procedure
✅ Assisting and collaborating with the circulating nurse to set up surgical procedures with the proper instrumentation, equipment, and supplies
✅ Passing instruments and performing retraction for the surgeon at the sterile field as directed
✅ Anticipating the needs of the surgical team during procedures and providing the appropriate instruments, equipment, and supplies
✅ Assisting in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of general and specialty instruments, equipment, and supplies according to established guidelines, policies, and procedures
✅ Collaborating with the circulating nurse to ensure the accuracy of sponge, sharps, and instrument counts per established policies and procedures
✅ Applying principles of asepsis to maintain the integrity of the sterile field
✅ Assisting with inventory management of supplies in operating rooms and storerooms
✅ Assisting with patient transport and movement/manipulation of equipment as needed
✅ Communicating effectively with patients and team members
✅ Actively participating in WHO Checklist compliance, hand hygiene, and departmental quality and safety initiatives
✅ Participating in parallel processing with the circulating nurse and team members to achieve turnover goals and on-time starts
✅ Participating in an on-call rotation for specified nights, weekends, and holidays

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited surgical technology program with 0-1 years of experience. Required certifications include BCLS and the ability to meet Massachusetts practice requirements for surgical technologists.
