About the Role

As a Senior Professional Staff Nurse, you’ll be a key member of our care team, setting the standard for high-quality nursing care. You’ll lead patient care activities, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and support a healing environment through compassionate, evidence-based practice. Responsibilities include: Applying the nursing process through Relationship-Based Care Creating personalized care plans with patients and families Communicating effectively with care teams Identifying and addressing clinical and psychosocial needs Leading or participating in quality improvement initiatives Mentoring new nurses and students Engaging in shared governance and professional development Promoting a healthy, inclusive workplace culture Schedule This position requires rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage in the Emergency Department.

Education & Experience

  • BSN preferred; Master’s in Nursing or related field may substitute for certification requirement. Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required. Must receive and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on annual Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluations. Completion of 2 professional contributions annually (or 1 contribution with certification), aligned with department, hospital, or system goals and approved by Unit Director per UPMC’s My Nursing Career Ladder.

Effective communication and relationship-building with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Capable of working in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning. Demonstrates cultural awareness and contributes to a healthy workplace.

Requirements
