About the role

The Physician Assistant provides quality healthcare to inpatients in a withdrawal management unit, including rounding, charting, and conducting new intakes. They are responsible for creating treatment plans, prescribing medications, and providing 24-hour on-call support for nursing staff.

Job summary

The Physician Assistant is responsible for delivering quality health care to patients at the Day One Center and to support the TNR mission. Daily responsibilities include rounding and charting on all inpatients in the withdrawal management unit which is currently 20 beds. Also responsible for new intakes as needed working collaboratively with our team.

Roles and responsibilities

Screen clients for appropriate admission to medically monitored withdrawal management services including use of standard screening tools.

  • Ex: CIWA COWS and suicidal screening tools.
  • Assess for medical and behavioral health needs.
  • Create and communicate individual treatment plans with nursing staff and treatment team Daily documentation in EHR.
  • Evaluate the clients progress, working collaboratively with the clinical team.
  • Prescribe medications and other therapeutic interventions including MAT as deemed necessary to provide the best evidence-based care.
  • Maintain TNR culture QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires direct oversight from a Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Have current license and prescription writing authority in the state of Alaska.
  • Be registered with the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
  • Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal background check.
  • COMPETENCIES A thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of this population.
  • Provide non-judgmental and compassionate care for this patient population Demonstrate the ability to respond to crises, situations and emergencies with good judgement.
  • Understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and 42 CFR.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple responsibilities and tasks to completion.
  • Understanding of Trauma informed care.
  • Understanding of addiction and recovery Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and initiative.
  • Demonstrate positive work ethic and organizational skills.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This role is primarily performed in an office building with standard office environment and controlled temperatures.
  • When working outdoors or at a job site the employee may be exposed to construction equipment or other moving objects/equipment; reference job site specifics.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Alaska license with prescription writing authority and a BLS certification. Registration with the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) and a satisfactory background check are also required.
