General Purpose of Job: Responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Performs routine and specialized patient laboratory testing. Obtains laboratory specimens from patients as needed. Posts laboratory results to their proper destination. Process microbiology cultrues and other specimes as needed. Follows establised procedures for quality control performance and documentation. Reports discrepancies to the Laboratory manager or designee. Performs daily, weekly, monthly or as needed maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Performs calibration of equipment as required. Troubleshoots problems with instruments, equipment, reagents and patient specimens. Documents situation approproately in department log and notifies the Laboratory Manager or designee. Maintains work area, cleans bench, restocks supplies and notifies manager of low stock. Participates in new lot correlation studies, proficiency testing, computer validation, procedure updates and accreditation readiness as needed. Participates in orientation and training of students and new laboratory employees. Performs DOT and non-DOT urine collections and BAT tests when requested following the established guidelines. Seeks additional assignments/projects during periods of lower than normal work volume. Job Requirements General Requirements
MT (ASCP), MLT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification within 12 months of hire.
BLS certified within 60 days of hire Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Science program and registered or registry eligible Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Good communication skills, accurate writing and spelling, ability to reason and problem solve.
Computer skills.
