The Pharmacy Technician provides technical assistance to pharmacists by preparing drug orders and managing inventory. They are also responsible for operating automation technology and issuing controlled substances to patient care areas.

  • Pharmacy Technician The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the pharmacists in their duties by providing technical assistance in accordance with department policy and California State law.
  • They will maintain close working communication with pharmacists and other Pharmacy technicians regarding the various department programs.
  • Essential Job Duties: Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for preparing drug orders according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified time frame.
  • The Technician operates automation technology, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, (Pyxis, computers, unit dose machines, etc).
  • The Pharmacy Tech issues controlled substances, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law.
  • Performs the essential functions relating to drug purchasing and inventory control.

Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of pharmacy technician experience. Preferred 1-3 year of Hospital experience. High School Graduate/Equivalent Preferred Technical School/ 1-2 Year College/ Associate’s Degree Basic typing abilities Current CA Pharmacy Technician Certification or CA Intern Pharmacist license PTCB designation of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain current thereafter

Requirements

Candidates must have at least one year of pharmacy technician experience and a current California Pharmacy Technician Certification or Intern Pharmacist license. A high school diploma is required, while a technical degree and PTCB certification are preferred.
