About the role

Performs clinical testing and quality control procedures while operating laboratory instrumentation and preparing reagents. Communicates patient results to nursing and physician staff and assists with various projects.

Major function

Performs testing and quality control procedures, operates instrumentation, prepares reagents and reports results according to established policies and procedures. Performs all testing under the supervision of a Laboratory Department Supervisor, Laboratory Manager or Lead Technologist. Communicates with nursing/physicians regarding patient results and assist in various projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate of Science in laboratory science preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 50-week military training as Medical Lab Specialist OR graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory or Clinical Laboratory training program.
  • 1 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure

  • ASCP or equivalent, certified, or eligible, required.
  • Certification must be achieved within 12 months after hire date.

Knowledge & Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Requirements

Requires an ASCP certification or eligibility and a high school diploma with military training or graduation from an approved clinical laboratory program. An Associate of Science in laboratory science and 1 to 3 years of clinical experience are preferred.
