About the role

Perform clinical tasks including patient preparation, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing while documenting care in EHR. Handle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, managing patient inquiries, and processing referrals.

Clinical duties

Prepare patients for examination (vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, medical history).

Assist providers during exams and minor procedures.

Perform phlebotomy, collect specimens (blood, urine, swabs), and label correctly.

Conduct point-of-care testing (blood glucose, rapid strep, pregnancy test, urinalysis, etc.).

Document care in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Prepare and maintain exam rooms (sanitizing, restocking supplies).

Support infection control protocols and proper use of PPE.

Administrative duties

Schedule patient radiology appointments.

Answer phones, relay messages, and manage patient inquiries.

Greet patients and manage check-in/check-out process.

Process referrals to specialists and imaging centers.

Maintain patient records, update demographics, and ensure accuracy.

Handle medical correspondence, including faxing, scanning, and emailing.

Qualifications

  • 1.
  • Education Required HS Diploma or Equivalence 2.
  • License/Certification/Registration(s) Required Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program 3.
  • Experience/Skills Required- One (1) year previous experience in a medical setting of relevant experience required.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Knowledge of Computer Technology preferred.
  • Successful completion of St.
  • Barnabas Hospital orientation.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a medical setting and possess strong communication skills.
