Job Description: Summary:

This position assists the physician and Clinical RN during all phases of the procedural periods. Incumbents are also responsible for cleaning and terminal sterilization of scopes and instrumentation, and labeling and handling pathology/laboratory specimens. This position is located in a combination of inpatient/outpatient settings.

Job Specifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred

Experience

  • A minimum of six months’ full-time equivalent experience as an Ambulatory Services Assistant, Surgical Assistant, or comparable job classification at Marin General Hospital;
  • A minimum of one year full-time equivalent hospital or related medical care experience as an Endoscopy Technician or comparable position.

License and Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire.

Integrative Agitation Management (IAMTAC) Required within 30 days of hire.

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred at hire.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred at hire.

Prerequisite Skills

  • Knowledge of sterilization practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of principles of aseptic technique
  • Ability to function within a fast-paced medical environment
  • Knowledge of relevant medical supplies and equipment used in an outpatient, surgical, or other environment to which assigned
  • Effective verbal and written communication skill
  • Demonstrated ability in being flexible to meet the needs of the department
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of medical databases, and accurate keyboarding related to applicable computer hardware and software
  • Ability to work effectively and tactfully and to represent the department appropriately during contact with patients, their families, physicians, and other department personnel
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to take call (must live within 30 minutes of hospital location) and work additional hours as needed

Patient Privacy (HIPAA Compliance)

• Employees in this position have access to protected health information. The protected health information a person in this position can access includes demographics, date of service, insurance/billing, medical record summary information, and all other information that may be contained in patient records. This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined

Duties: And Responsibilities:

  • Essential (Not Modifiable)
  • Prepares for G.I., endoscopy, and related procedures and remains in room once patient has entered the room
  • Assists physicians with the biopsy, polypectomy, etc. procedures, communicating additional needs to the Clinical RN
  • Cleans and disinfects scopes, air scopes, all procedural surfaces, and room
  • Transports patients to Recovery Room with the assistance of Clinical RN
  • Stocks rooms (supplies, linen, chart forms, appropriate equipment), maintains PAR levels of supplies
  • Prepares and labels specimens according to policy and procedure
  • Assists with housekeeping duties in all areas of department
  • Performs clerical duties such as faxing, photocopying, and filing
  • Reviews overall work schedule for day with Endoscopy RN and Charge Nurse before completion of duties

Compensation

The posted pay range complies with applicable law and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Individual pay is set by skills, experience, qualifications, and internal/market equity, consistent with MarinHealth’s compensation philosophy. Positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by those agreements.
