Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This includes complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray.
Requires a high school diploma and completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program or an associate degree with specific biology and chemistry credits. Candidates must have at least one year of clinical histology experience and HT certification.
