  • Hospital: Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital (JBHH) is a three-story, 180,000-square-foot facility committed to the highest quality, treatment, and service. Opened in 1999, JBHH consolidates evaluation, clinical treatment, teaching and research, to offer a full continuum of care for children, adolescents, adults and elderly, including crisis stabilization, inpatient hospitalization, and outpatient programs. In association with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry, JBHH offers specialized treatment for numerous conditions including depression and mood disorders, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation or behavior, anxiety and panic disorders, drug and alcohol abuse and Alzheimer's disease. JBHH also specializes in criminal justice mental health services Summary The Peer Specialist works as a member of the clinical and therapeutic team, under the direction of the program director. The primary responsibility of the Peer specialist is to assist with linkage to mental health treatment and supportive services for adults with severe mental illnesses who are currently receiving services in the Program.

Responsibilities

Performs as a role model providing consumers with resource information that will help facilitate community functioning and promote and support recovery and resiliency behaviors. Promotes and supports positive communication amongst peers and peers with staff. Provides peer-to-peer educational guidance and other consumer driven activities. Assists person with developing and achieving their goals. Reports to Program Director for supervision. Actively participates in meetings at program. Possesses ability to work with individuals in the inpatient and outpatient setting to assist them to develop skills necessary to work on recovery goals. Assists peer members to remain stable and maintain their recovery. (Activities to include but not limited to conducting WRAP training and peer support group). Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Education High school diploma is required.

Credentials Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty. Unit Specific Credential AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity

Requirements
