The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in a cardiology outpatient setting, including patient triage, vitals, and performing diagnostic tests like EKGs. They are also responsible for scheduling appointments, managing medical records, and assisting providers with direct patient care.

Three Crosses Regional Hospital is an advanced independent healthcare organization led by a local team of professionals dedicated to high quality patient care and being the first choice of patients and providers in the communities we serve.

Under general supervision the Medical Assistant performs a wide variety of medical and clinical support functions in an outpatient clinical setting, such as providing initial patient triage, registration, and administrative services, assists with direct patient care, and performs medical procedures of a routine nature as determined by established protocol, polices, and procedures. Duties for Medical Assistant include, but not limited to, recording, and updating medical histories and contact information in patient files, scheduling patient appointments, scheduling of procedures, obtaining medication authorization, reminding of patient appointments, performing standard care procedures such as checking vitals, performing tests, answers messages, pre chart work, and abstracting needed documentation. Must be able to maintain efficiency in a high volume, fast-paced environment with a pleasant disposition with patients and team members.

The incumbent will carry-out her/his duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of Three Crosses Regional Hospital, and fully supports the mission, vision, and values of Three Crosses Regional Hospital. The incumbent will have knowledge of health care systems, and have demonstrated ability to interact, relate to, work with, and support the activities of a diverse workforce.

Primary Responsibilities

Performs various administrative and clinical duties under direction of administration and/or clinician.

Assists patients as necessary with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting specimens and preparing for exams. Utilizes electronic health records system to collect pertinent patient history consistent with organizational guidelines.

Takes vitals, electrocardiograms, stress tests, ETTs, Event/Holter Monitor

Performs screening consistent with provider guidelines.

Prepares and administers medications, including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections as directed by provider.

Transmits prescription refills as directed

Communicates appropriately and clearly with patients, co-workers, and management.

Prepares charts for provider to include obtaining results of studies such as labs, imaging, etc. prior to visit

Assists in completion of forms in preparation of provider review and signature

Schedules appointments/procedures and answers calls/message in a timely basis

Arranges hospital admissions and laboratory services as needed

Monthly/Weekly/Annual inspection and testing of equipment used in clinic.

Able to recognize and is knowledgeable of heart rhythms on EKG and rhythm strips.

Maintains effective communication with the patient and provides an explanation of procedures within the scope of practice.

Ensures physician order for the procedure is entered accurately. Consults appropriate resources to clarify orders and deemed necessary.

Education and Experience • Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: 6-12 months of experience in a health care environment
  • Required: BLS from American Heart Association
  • Preferred: Certificate of successful completion of Medical Assistant Program
  • Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma, 6-12 months of healthcare experience, and BLS certification from the American Heart Association. A Medical Assistant program certificate or CMA certification is preferred.
