PURPOSE

The RN PAT acts as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the health care team of the Surgical Center. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Surgical Center. Works closely with physician offices to obtain pertinent information in order to provide quality care to individual patients. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.

Essential functions

Responsible for all activities associated with the delivery of quality nursing practices and duties assigned to this role.

Manages the preadmission process for patients scheduled for elective surgery.

Oversees intake, performs initial physical assessments and interviews patient to obtain medical history.

Assesses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients during patient interview. Report any unusual symptoms, conditions or discrepancies to appropriate physician and/or anesthesia provider.

Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient, family, and significant other in order to address all identified needs during the preadmission process.

Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient. Works closely with the anesthesia provider to pre-screen patients with health concerns.

Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient’s responses are reassessed in order meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.

Maintains up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, in order to ensure quality care and communicates any potential concerns with team members as needed.

Directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned.

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center safety, and specific job-related hazards.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

Follows the center exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens.

Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the center’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the center, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed.

Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct.

Regular and dependable attendance.

Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.

Other duties and responsibilities

Cross-trains to pre-op and PACU and work in those areas when requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education and Experience

Required

High school diploma or GED.

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Two (2) or more years RN experience.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • ASC experience.

Certificate/License

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas required.

Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card and current AHA approved Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card required.

Current AHA approved Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card preferred.

Required to maintain a current registered nursing license and CPR certifications during employment.

  • Knowledge of all activities associated with the delivery of quality nursing practices and duties assigned to this role.

  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills. Must be adept at using EMR, Microsoft Word and Windows, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday (8 hours a day)

Requirements

Requires a nursing degree, current Texas RN licensure, and at least two years of RN experience. Mandatory certifications include BLS and ACLS, with PALS preferred.
