  • Range: $35.00 - $47.00 HourlyPosition Summary We are seeking a Dental Hygienist to join our dental team. This person will be responsible for providing hygiene treatment to patients with focus on preventive dental care, patient screening, and education to help patients maintain healthy teeth and gums. You will work in tandem with the dentist to identify oral diseases and develop personalized treatment plans. This position offers flexible days/times and is negotiable based on candidate availability and operations needs. Essential Functions An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation: Conduct initial mouth screening exams to check for signs of oral cancer, gum disease, and cavities before the dentist’s examination. Perform thorough and gentle dental cleanings (prophylaxis), scaling, root planning, and selective polishing of teeth as appropriate. Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays) to help the dentist spot hidden issues in the teeth, jaw, and bone structure. Administer local anesthetics and place medicaments subgingivally for periodontal disease, if allowed by dental practice act. Teach proper oral hygiene, brushing/flossing techniques Counsel patients on oral health, including the role of nutrition. Apply preventive materials such as fluorides and sealants. Accurately chart each patient’s periodontal health and maintain accurate patient records, treatment plans, and chart periodontal health. Communicate with the patient in an understandable and professional way. Check on the patient’s comfort during treatment and help alleviate any anxiety. Sterilize equipment and adhere to safety regulations, such as OSHA and HIPPA. Schedule and review the daily schedule for hygiene patients with efficiency. Review patient health and dental history forms and update as necessary. Perform other tasks assigned by the dentist. Check treatment rooms for cleanliness. Maintain a supply inventory for hygiene treatment and submit timely supply orders as needed. Store instruments and trays in appropriate places.   • Experience: Experience in dental hygiene role and familiarity with periodontal treatment procedures. Experience providing prophylaxis and taking dental x-rays. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, oral anatomy, and periodontal disease. Proficiency in using dental software and technology.

Education

An associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from an accredited program.

Licenses &

Certifications: A current valid and active South Carolina license to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH). Certification in administering local anesthesia. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities To be successful, the dental hygienist must possess a blend of technical and interpersonal skills: Effective communication skills with ability to explain complex health information n a simple, reassuring language to patients of all ages. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to be calm, approachable, and friendly to make participants feel safe. Help nervous or anxious patients feel comfortable and heard during their visit. Demonstrated ability to maintain effective, professional, and courteous working relationships and demeanor with other employees and the public. Must maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Follow strict protocols for infection control and accurately noticing subtle changes in oral health. Excellent manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination with ability to use precise tools in small, sensitive areas of the mouth. Ability to work well within a team and collaborate with other dental professionals. Work Environment & Physical Demands Dental Care Clinic Faced paced setting with frequent patient interactions. Prolonged sitting and leaning over patients Repetitive hand and wrist movements (cleaning teeth, scaling) Fine motor skills and precision work Neck and back strain from awkward positions Use of vision and focus for detailed oral work Exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and medical waste. Use of electronic health records (EHR) systems and computers for documentation.

Requirements

Requires an associate or bachelor's degree in dental hygiene and a valid South Carolina RDH license. Candidates must be certified in local anesthesia and possess strong technical skills in periodontal treatment and radiography.
