Washington Blvd Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Overnight Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join our team in Whittier, California. Working under the direction of our veterinarians and Technician Supervisor, you will provide attentive overnight nursing care, follow detailed treatment plans, and help keep our patients safe and comfortable throughout their stay. This is an important role for someone who is confident working independently while also communicating closely with doctors, leadership, and the rest of the medical team. Our hospital is open seven days a week, and our overnight team plays an essential part in maintaining continuity of care for hospitalized, surgical, and emergency patients. Why Our Veterinary Technicians Love It Here Work a consistent schedule of four 10-hour overnight shifts Use a broad range of technical and nursing skills Care for hospitalized, emergency, and surgical patients Join a team that values communication, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing Receive support for continuing education and professional growth Work in a hospital where patience, kindness, and compassion guide patient care What Our Veterinary Technicians Do Follow digital treatment plans prescribed by the attending veterinarian Provide safe, effective patient handling and low-stress restraint Administer medications, injections, sedation, and nursing care as directed Place intravenous catheters and support emergency and surgical care Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in patient status Administer and monitor general anesthesia when required and within your training and scope Collect diagnostic samples through venipuncture, cystocentesis, fecal collection, and other approved methods Perform in-house laboratory diagnostics, including urinalysis and cytology Process samples using in-hospital laboratory equipment Assist with blood transfusions and advanced nursing procedures Take diagnostic radiographs Maintain accurate and complete digital medical records Sterilize surgical instruments and manage autoclave and ethylene oxide equipment appropriately Monitor surgical inventory and ensure necessary supplies are available Maintain clean treatment areas, patient wards, and workspaces Follow infectious disease, biomedical waste, and medical waste protocols Complete laundry, sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and other hospital upkeep duties What Our Veterinary Technicians Bring Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience Knowledge of veterinary medicine and terminology Experience with emergency, surgical, and hospitalized patient care Strong verbal and written communication skills The ability to work effectively during overnight hours Confidence following treatment plans and recognizing changes in patient condition A positive, supportive, and team-oriented approach Patience, kindness, and compassion in challenging situations A commitment to continued learning and sharing knowledge with others The ability to build strong working relationships with teammates, doctors, and leadership The Extras You'll Actually Feel Overnight work requires trust, communication, and confidence, and Washington Blvd Animal Hospital is committed to supporting the people who take on that responsibility.
