Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate age-appropriate nursing care for patients presenting to the ED, from pediatric through geriatric populations.
  • Perform triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5-level process and develop patient care plans accordingly.
  • Document care and patient responses accurately in the ED record; communicate needs concisely to the care team.
  • Collaborate with providers, peers, ancillary departments, and outside agencies to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective patient care.
  • Prioritize patient care to maintain flow, manage multiple patients, administer medications and therapies, monitor life-support equipment, and perform emergency resuscitation as needed.
  • Facilitate discharge planning and education for patients and families; participate in ongoing professional development and departmental education.

Requirements

  • Current Wisconsin registered nursing license or active compact licensure
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC required; ATCN preferred
  • ADN (two-year) degree required; BSN preferred - 2+ years of relevant ED/acute care nursing experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced ED setting and maintain composure in high-stress situations
  • Proficiency with computerized documentation and ED information systems
