About the role

Transcribes medical reports and correspondence while providing logistical support for the Pathology Department. Responsibilities include collecting, cataloging, and setting up specimens for pathological review and disposing of tissue remains.

Your Role on the Team

Position Summary

Transcribes medical reports, routine letters and other medical correspondence using transcription equipment and word processing programs. Charts, files, faxes, and retrieves reports per departmental protocol. Prepares material for consultation to other facilities. Performs other duties as requested.Reports to the Laboratory Director. Provides logistical support for the Pathology Department. Collects and catalogues specimens received for pathological examination. Directly assists the Pathologist in setting up specimens for pathological review. Disposes of tissue remains in accordance with local health standards. Performs other duties as requested. Reports to Laboratory Director.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications

Possesses ability for rapid and accurate transcription of tape recorded anatomical pathology dictation. Must have a good working knowledge of medical terminology utilized in pathology consultations with good communication skills in English. Good working knowledge of basic office equipment to include telephone, fax machines and personal computers. Possesses knowledge of basic anatomy. Able to retrieve, log and set up specimens for pathological and cytological examination. Possess a tolerance for processing and disposal of human pathological specimens. Recognizes safety aspects of handling hazardous materials to include formalin and alcohols. Good communication skills in English. Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prefer two years previous experience in pathology medical transcription. Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
