About the role

Provide direct patient care and supervision to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals with behavioral health challenges. Collaborate with clinical staff to support treatment plans and respond to behavioral escalations.

Responsibilities

  • Three Trails Behavioral Hospital in the area of Independence, MO and we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Technician (MHT) PRN to join our day team.
  • In this hands-on role, you will work directly with patients experiencing behavioral health challenges, helping to ensure their safety, support their treatment plans, and promote a positive therapeutic environment.
  • The name Three Trails was selected to honor the historical significance of the city of Independence as the starting point for the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails.
  • The logo icon is a compass, which is symbolic of wayfinding, and metaphorically the personal journey to recovery.
  • The Groundbreaking for the new hospital was held in January 2025.
  • Beam topping was held in July 2025.
  • The facility is expected to open in the second half of 2026.
  • The Mental Health Technician (MHT) will: Provide direct patient care and supervision in a behavioral health setting Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment at all times Conduct routine patient safety checks and observations Support patients with daily living activities as appropriate Respond appropriately to situations and behavioral escalations Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff to support patient care plans.
  • Three Trails Behavioral Hospital will: Serve children and adolescents, adults and seniors with innovative and evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare focused on individual needs and comfort.
  • Create more than 200 new, full-time jobs including nurses, clinicians, therapists, technicians and administrative staff, when the facility is fully operational.
  • Be located at the intersection of I-70 and Little Blue Parkway, adjacent to the Children’s Mercy Hospital Outpatient Clinics.
  • Feature 120 licensed beds ready to meet the mental health needs of the surrounding community.
  • Span more than 88,000 square feet, and will include an activity yard and gym.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field (preferred) Previous experience in behavioral health, psychiatric care, or healthcare setting preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment Strong interpersonal, communication, and observational skills Must be able to manage challenging behaviors with professionalism and empathy Current BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire Ability to work 12 hour shifts EEO Statement All UHS subsidiaries are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates.

Requirements
