Position Summary

The GI technician/Endoscopy functions under the direct supervision of the Operating room Manager to assist with the operation of technical equipment used during simple and complex endoscopic procedures. The physician, registered nurse, and the GI technician work as a team in the procedure room to provide positive patient outcomes. This job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent Previous experience in surgical or other medical setting desired Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Ability to stand for extended periods, assist with patient positioning, lift more than 30 lbs, bend, and perform tasks requiring precision with hands. Excellent organizational and communication skills Current BLS Certification POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: General Competencies: Professional behavior is demonstrated, both when on duty and as a representative of MMHD outside of normal work hours. Maintains all information as confidential as appropriate, to include personnel information, and other information obtained during the course of performing job duties that is confidential. Demonstrates ability to effectively use office machines in the performance of job functions. Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary and in a professional and friendly manner. Other duties as assigned. Specific Competencies: Preparation of Endoscopic Equipment: Ensure that all necessary Endoscopic instruments and equipment are sterile, properly maintained, and ready for use. Assisting with Procedures: Assist the Endoscopist by preparing all supplies needed for each case, ensuring equipment is functioning before the start of each case, handling instruments during procedures, collecting biopsies, and ensuring the comfort and safety of patients. Post-Procedure Clean-Up: Clean and disinfect endoscopic equipment and the procedure room following cases. The reprocessing of an endoscope is a multi-step process to prevent infections and ensure all equipment is sterilized and ready for future use.
