The GI technician/Endoscopy functions under the direct supervision of the Operating room Manager to assist with the operation of technical equipment used during simple and complex endoscopic procedures. The physician, registered nurse, and the GI technician work as a team in the procedure room to provide positive patient outcomes. This job description is intended to identify some of the primary duties and responsibilities. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent Previous experience in surgical or other medical setting desired Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Ability to stand for extended periods, assist with patient positioning, lift more than 30 lbs, bend, and perform tasks requiring precision with hands. Specific Competencies: Preparation of Endoscopic Equipment: Ensure that all necessary Endoscopic instruments and equipment are sterile, properly maintained, and ready for use. Assisting with Procedures: Assist the Endoscopist by preparing all supplies needed for each case, ensuring equipment is functioning before the start of each case, handling instruments during procedures, collecting biopsies, and ensuring the comfort and safety of patients. Post-Procedure Clean-Up: Clean and disinfect endoscopic equipment and the procedure room following cases. The reprocessing of an endoscope is a multi-step process to prevent infections and ensure all equipment is sterilized and ready for future use.
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and procedures, adhering to hospital protocols and regulatory standards.
Collaboration and communication: Work closely with the surgical team and other clinical staff to provide safe patient care and support.

CONDITIONS: Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary. Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary. Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.
