Key responsibilities

Educate, counsel, and support breastfeeding mothers to establish and maintain lactation.

Teach breastfeeding techniques, proper latching, milk storage, and breast pump use.

Support working mothers with milk supply management.

Lead breastfeeding education classes and community outreach activities.

Assess infant oral motor mechanics and recommend interventions as needed.

Collaborate with providers and nursing staff to address lactation concerns.

Document patient encounters accurately in EMR.

Provide referrals and guidance on lactation resources, equipment, and supplies.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian is preferred.
  • Must be IBCLC Lactation Consultant Certified or in process of obtaining certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar work environment, with outpatient clinic experience being a plus.
  • Excellent teaching, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of diverse cultural, physical, emotional, and psychological responses to birthing, lactation, and parenting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is highly preferred.

Requirements

Must be an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Proficiency in Spanish/English and a background in outpatient clinic settings are highly preferred.
