About the role

The OR Scrub Technician is responsible for scrubbing into surgical procedures across all specialties and maintaining a sterile field. Key duties include setting up cases, counting surgical items with the circulating nurse, and managing surgical instruments and supplies.

To learn more about Baptist Health, visit us at https://www.baptistfirst.org. Highlights: Summary: The OR Scrub Technician is primarily responsible to scrub on surgical procedures in all specialties performed in the Perioperative area.

This individual shall function as a member of the surgical team.

The Scrub Technician shall be responsible to set up assigned cases, maintain a sterile field, and count appropriate items with circulating nurse used during surgical cases.

This position requires an understanding of the principles of aseptic technique and sterilization.

Additionally, this individual shall perform a variety of tasks such as care of instruments, supplies, sutures, needles, and basic equipment, as well as stocking, cleaning, and inventory.

The Scrub Technician must know policies and procedures pertaining to duties and be able to fulfill verbal and written instructions.

This individual will strictly adhere to all OSHA guidelines, safety, and infection control policies.

This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.

Education/ Experience: High school graduate or equivalent required.

Hospital experience preferred in area of Surgical Services preferred.

License/Certification: CST preferred, BLS required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Completion of a certified technician program or acceptable on the job training program
  • Possesses interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate appropriately, verbal or written Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Position requires sitting for 10%, walking 30%, standing 60% of the workday. There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action. Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds. There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person. Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range. Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels. Much exposure to computer work. Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock. Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Occasional exposure to radiation. Frequent noise exposure. Mechanical and electrical exposure due to equipment i.e. autoclaves, phone, copier, computer, fax machine and all intraoperative equipment. Continuous exposure to dust and communicable diseases. May involve high levels of stress. Requirements

Candidates must be high school graduates with BLS certification; a CST certification and hospital experience in surgical services are preferred. Completion of a certified technician program or equivalent on-the-job training is required.
