About the role

The Psychology Fellow provides supervised individual and group counseling, psychological assessments, and crisis intervention for patients in the Neonatal Follow-up Program. Additionally, the role involves participating in active research projects, assisting with grant writing, and preparing academic presentations.

Miami, FL Full-Time Resident DBT Program Summary The Psychology Fellow will perform supervised individual and group counseling, supervision, crisis intervention, and consultation/outreach. Provides psychological assessments, intakes and appropriate referrals. Work is supervised by professional staff, and individual clinical work is supervised by a licensed psychologist.

Responsibilities

Under clinical supervision, the psychology fellow may engage in the following research, clinical and related activities: Assessment of patients with a variety of medical, developmental, and mental health disorders in the Neonatal Follow-up Program at Buerger. Patient range in age from 6 months to 6 years. The use of standardized measures, interpretations of findings in the context of medical history and family background, early identification and diagnosis will be emphasized. Interdisciplinary consultation with patients, families, and other professionals in the NFU at Buerger as well as consultation and collaboration with families, and other professionals and other community agencies (e.g. Participate in active research projects including tasks related to subject recruitment, assessment and intervention in the context of research, and assisting with regulatory affairs and participation in human subjects. The focus of the research will be on supporting social and emotional developmental of young children and the implementation of a system of positive behavior support in childcare settings. Assist with preparation of posters, presentations, and journal articles based on research findings. Participate in the development of new research projects and assisting with grant writing. Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Education High school diploma is required.

  • Credentials American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • Unit Specific Credential AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity Working Conditions Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking.
  • Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
  • Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
  • Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers.

  • May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and 0 to 3 years of related experience. Required credentials include AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and the ability to function in a fast-paced medical environment.
